A Working Group on Indigenous Food Sovereignty has been set up within Food Secure Canada. Any member is welcome to join.
Dawn Morrison has completed the report of the Working Group on Indigenous Food Sovereignty in BC.
The BC Food Systems Network has also written a letter urging the Federal Government to sign on to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Following Food Secure Canada's National Assembly, several participants including Elizabeth Penashue of the Innu Nation travelled to Winnipeg to attend a gathering of Indigenous Defenders of the Land, organized by Arthur Manuel of the Secwepemc nation and spokesperson for the Indigenous Network on Economies and Trade. One outcome was a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
